When Spock receives a subspace message diverting the Enterprise to StarBase 11, Commodore Jose Mendez can find no record of any such message being sent. Evidence mounts against Spock receiving any message concerning his now badly crippled and paralyzed friend and former Captain, Christopher Pike. When Pike disappears from his hospital room and the Enterprise unexpectedly warps out of orbit, Kirk and Mendez pursue in a shuttle craft. Spock surrenders and reveals his plan to take Captain Pike to Talos IV. As he faces a court martial for mutiny, which could result in the death penalty if the Enterprise reaches Talos IV, Kirk wonders if his close friend and comrade, Spock, has lost his mind. |
